There are many videos on the Internet, which feature a series of morphing images. The effect is not complicated and you may create your own effects, with special software. FotoMorph will help you with this task. Instead of loading a series of images and selecting a pre-set effect, you can define your own effects, with the program's flexible tools. Your animation can also include zooming, panning or warping effects and you may combine them into a single sequence.

FotoMorph is free and it comes in a 120 Kb package. You can download it in a few moments and the installation process will go just as fast, but the setup wizard will offer to install about three extra utilities during the setup. The good news is that you can accept or refuse them by clicking check boxes.

The process of creating a morphing effect is a bit more complex than selecting two pictures and a pre-made effect. The software will help you in various ways, so you will not have any difficulties. You may create new projects or manage their sequences, load images, make certain adjustments and preview the entire animation on different pages. Switching from one page to another is done with the aid of navigation tabs and each page will display different types of editing areas, as well as different options, on the left side of the interface. To make things easier, you can load a sample project and see how the adjustments are done. An option for loading the sample project is available at all times, on the Projects page.

Morphing effects are created step by step, by defining different sequences. You can add Morph, Warp, Pan or Transition sequences, just like slides, when creating a slideshow. When a sequence is added, you will need to access the Images page, where you can load the start and end pictures. It is also possible to resize, flip, rotate or deform a picture, on the same page. The options on the Control page let you adjust various delays and durations. Depending on what type of sequence you are working on, some options will not be available. If you are creating a morphing sequence, you will have to place numerous dots on one of the images after which you will need to click and drag them, according to how you want to morph your image. A preview will help you get an idea about how the image will be morphed.

The last page is where you can view all your sequences as a whole. You can also add animation text, set the frame's size, its shadow and color. The option for exporting the animation is located on the same page. It will open a new window, where you can select the output format and quality. Animations can be saved as image sequences, Flash movies, in SWF format, web pages (SWF+HTML), GIF animations or AVI movies.

Pros

The software makes it possible to create high quality morphing animations, using standard image files. Its options are flexible and they are easy to understand. FotoMorph includes a sample project as well, which can help you figure out how to create your own animation.

Cons

The setup wizard offers to install too many additional tools and services. Morphing effects are not hard to create, when using FotoMorph. It provides everything you need to make your own effects, however you want.
